The Yoga Nut … Lucie Walker!

I have had a varied path before becoming a yoga teacher, but I have always loved to teach. I originally trained as a secondary school teacher, teaching Russian, German, and French. After having my children, I trained and taught aerobics and fitness, then qualified as a nutritional therapist in 2002 with a diploma in Natural Nutrition and Naturopathy.

In 2010, I embarked on a Steiner Teacher Training course from which I graduated in 2012. I then taught at a Steiner school, as a class teacher, up until 2022. This was a very “art-based” form of teaching full of storytelling, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I now incorporate this aspect into yoga, where I use stories and poems to illustrate yoga philosophy and to add another dimension to my yoga classes.

As children, we always love to hear stories, and as adults, we are no different; snuggling up and listening to a story is very relaxing and helps the worries of the day fade into the background.

Having always had an interest in yoga, I gained my 200-hour certificate with Orange Yoga in Cheltenham. I have been teaching yoga in my local area since 2015 and have been attending the 500-hour yoga training course, again at Orange Yoga.

During my 500 hours of training, I became very interested in Yin yoga. Yin yoga grew out of Traditional Chinese Medicine and encourages relaxation at a very deep level, both within the body’s tissues and within the mind, as it is very slow and meditative.

In this way, it is perfect for beginners and for people who are injured or new to exercise and meditation. I have completed two five-day training courses in Yin yoga, and I currently teach this and a form of hatha flow in Frampton on Severn. My hatha flow classes are a bit more dynamic, focusing on strength, flexibility and stamina.

More recently, I have started running day yoga retreats in both Frampton and Arlingham. These retreat days give people a chance to deeply relax and unwind, and are educational days too, where nutritional topics are discussed.

There is a nutritious lunch and, of course, healthy cake! Nutrition plays an important role in my life, and I incorporate it into my yoga days. I am available for private one-to-one nutritional consultations.

If you fancy a bit of a longer retreat in a lovely sunny part of the world, I am going to be running a yoga week in Morocco in 2027. Click the button below for more information!
